EARTH
THE BIRCH TREE OF UKRAINE
Fire is the subject of the composition. The single birch is resisting and prevailing against the encroachment of the dark pine forest. In my painting the forest forground is ablaze but the birch survives towards its spring awakening whilst the pines are consumed.
UKRAINIAN CHILD`S BEDROOM
It is spring. The curtains of a Ukrainian child’s room are drawn aside. It is not the sun‘s warmth or the clarity of the seasonal light which suffuses the room but a hellish scene of Wanton destruction.
Yet, amid this criminal ruination nature offers the child a sign. Yellow and blue flowers begin to emerge from the shattered earth whilst a flexible and slender birch tree divides the view. These are symbols of life, of renewal and promise and of Ukrainian bravery and humanity prevailing over forces of inhumanity and death.

A SONG AT SUNRISE
This painting incorporates all four elements of nature, earth being predominant. The earth mass is represented by the mountains, fire by the sun, air by the light suffused mist and water by the forms of snow and cloud.

THE WAVE
Air is the breath of life, an invisible element personified in all aspects of nature from the flights of birds and insects to the movement of clouds, the dispersion of light and constant winds of the land and sea.
FROM THE OLD BRIDGE
The river and the reflections in the still water stand for the unity of nature . It joins disparate elements and it reflects the space around it by the perfection of its mirror-like surface. The constructed lawns and banks of the river represent human management while the riverside woods and individual trees stand for natural growth. The buttresses of the ancient bridge move against the flowing currant of the river creating a forward movement in stillness. The composition is defined by points of reference creating a hidden geometry which culminates in the image of the full moon.
"The interpretation of the natural world through painting has been my vocation for over 7 decades. I passionately feel for the earth and its species and believe we have never needed an awareness of the natural environment more than we do today. Landscape painting from a pastoralism to the most elemental phenomena such as volcanoes, the aurora borealis and icebergs are the subject matter of my work. The paintings aim to assert that inspiration from nature leads to an imaginative definition and expression of mystery."

KEITH GRANT–
VISIONS OF NATURE
Keith Grant, born in Liverpool, England 1930, now living in Norway. He studied painting at the prestigious Royal College of Art, London 1955-58. As an artist Keith Grant has always been inspired by his love of nature which he celebrates in paintings derived from her most intimate landscape moods to visual images of elemental grandeur and mystery.
